Bronze Fine Art Gallery

Designed for world-class bronze sculptor Blair Muhlestein to promote his art gallery, this site has been designed to allow the gallery manager to update the site with new artwork and artists. Blair is known for his realistic, life-like sculptures of children and his attention to detail. For each page of his artwork, multiple photos from different angles and closeups are included to help the customer see this attention to detail.

St. Matthew's Medical Clinic

Another example of a simple "Brochure Site," this site was designed to promote the medical services of this free clinic without requiring investment in ongoing maintenance costs. The site has several pages identifying the services provided, patient eligibility and responsibilities, and contact information. It also provides free advertising to the agencies that contribute assistance and volunteers.

ILS Robotics

A simple content management site, the ILS Robotics site was created to facilitate communication among the two Lego Robotics teams at Immanuel Lutheran middle school. The home page contains information anyone can view. Once logged in, the team members (5th - 8th grade) and their parents can post comments, videos, photos and more. The content permissions are in place to protect the identities of the students, allowing them the freedom to post without worry of who may find their photos and videos.

Dr. George W. Lee III, Optometrist

A good example of a basic online presence site, Dr. Lee was looking for a simple and cost-effective way to be online without needing to re-invest in it continuously. Also known as a "Brochure Site," on this one page you can find everything you need to know about Dr. Lee including services offered, contact and location information, insurance accepted, and an overview of him and his staff. An online contact form is also provided and utilized by many of his patients.

Since his target customer is likely to have vision-related problems, we added the ability to increase the font size of the text, along with some cute little comments if the user needs to increase the font size.

The Art of Geraldine McKeown, NWS

The Art of Geraldine McKeown, NWS

Ms. McKeown was ready to update her existing site; she wanted to begin managing the content on her site more frequently, and have the ability to control when and how information was presented online. This is another example of a Drupal-powered site, a site that uses the content management architecture allowing the owner to manage all the content herself without any special skills nor software.

The home page displays her most-recently added piece of artwork as well as her latest blog entry. In addition, her site provides an email subscription list, allowing people to subscribe and remove themselves from her list of fans. When she's ready to send out a notice about upcoming classes, she no longer needs to worry about the distribution list, as that is entirely managed by the site.

Artwork is categorized by several different types (media, topic, location) ensuring prospective customers can find what they're looking for regardless of how they want to find it. Individual pages for each piece of artwork also cross-sell by showcasing more artwork in the same categories.

NAADSM

NAADSM

We were originally approached by the Animal Health Population Institute at Colorado State University in 2006 to develop the NAADSM project, a veterinary contagious disease epidemiologic modeling application. The site was designed to be minimalistic in design, focusing on the ease of providing information to support the application. The NAADSM development team continues to relies on us to provide a site that distributes, documents and supports the application. Members of the team manage their respective site content without needing any special skills or software. In addition to the visible site, there is a tremendous amount of functionality restricted to team members and application users, invisible to the anonymous site visitor (someone not logged in).

The main site includes:

  • support forums
  • bug tracker
  • collection of testing files
  • conference call management system
  • integration with pre-existing custom databases

NAADSM Parameter Library
The Parameter Library was a year-long development project for Colorado State University and the US Department of Agriculture that allows users to develop, store and share their parameter values and supporting documentation for the NAADSM application. An intensive application, this was large, complex, and heavily dependent on user permissions. Highlights include:

  • Over 50 input forms
  • Parent-child structure to relate parameter values
  • User permissions based on user's role per each parameter value or parent project
  • Ability to handle files up to 100MB in size
  • Full bibliographic application

The NorthStone Group

Still one of our most addictive sites, this is the web presence for an executive consulting firm. While most of our clients hand us the information and leave it up to us how to best convey it online, in this case we worked very closely with the team at NorthStone to bring their vision to life.

The home page is a fun Flash application, but also has a JavaScript alternative for those without Flash installed, and has a no-script version for those without Flash and without JavaScript enabled. Take a look at this site, it's fun to play with the compass.

A Leg Up for Kids Foundation

This is a small but valuable non-profit organization that provides custom-modified strollers to children who rely on ventilators. Without their help, these children would remain home-bound, along with their care-givers. This organization relies on the generosity of donors for nearly everything they do. They initially needed a professional-looking website to help convince a manufacturer to donate strollers. The site continues to be relied on to communicate their purpose and availability to those in need, to recruit volunteers and to raise much-needed funds.

This site uses a bright, friendly, inviting color scheme to convey the focus on children's needs. There's a donation form web page for printing, special pages to recognize donors and participants in their latest fundraising activity, and even a YouTube video of the gourmet chef challenge.

Bay Ace Hardware

Originally designed in 2005, this site has withstood the test of time. Very few elements have been updated beyond new items being added to this site.

Bay Ace Hardware was looking for a site that promoted their two stores and their rental supplies. It's not a complex site, but it is easy to navigate and has been successful in meeting their needs and those of their customers for more than 6 years.

Sandy Cove Ministries

Sandy Cove Ministries

For 9 years I was the sole webmaster of this $7 million non-profit conference and event center. I took this site from a couple dozen static HTML pages to a very large, complex, interactive site. Although I transferred the site to a larger marketing firm in May 2009, the current site has changed little. The design has been updated a bit, (visible compared to the screenshot of the home page presented here,) and the content has been updated, but in scope and functionality it continues to run on the same foundation.

  • PHP pages with includes and occasional MySQL database interaction
  • Custom content-management system created for event calendars
  • DCForums, Drupal 5, Drupal 6 installed at different times for forums, community message boards, guest stories and blogs
  • Custom Flash movies
  • Streaming media (video and audio podcasts)
  • Online store, donations and registration, integrating with 3rd party payment and registration solutions
  • Photo galleries
  • Java apps: coloring pages, slideshows
  • Custom send-to-friend script
